My mother died when I was just 3 weeks old and then immediately, my father dumped me in the orphanage. I heard from stories that he dumped me there because he wanted to keep his reputation and he didn’t want to waste his money taking care of a child. All the children in the orphanage made fun of me because I was the only one who’s father was alive and lived in the orphanage. They all told me I wasn’t pretty and smart and that’s the reason my father dumped me there. The matron in the orphanage wasn’t even kind enough to hide her hate for me. She thought I was an extra burden, and she always made me sit down to watch my father on TV, always telling me that he did a very good thing by dumping me, always making me feel extraordinarily hurt and angry. I was…Sadmad.
As I grew older, I indulged myself in a lot of activities in order to separate myself from the world. I learnt the piano, saxophone, and violin. I learnt how to sing, draw and dance. I learnt karate and yoga. I know what you’d be thinking… all in one person? Well I used it to get away from all my problems and it worked, at least for the moment. On my 17th birthday, I got a very big surprise. One that changed my life for as long as I can remember. I got a very very big cake that had 4 different flavors. It was beautiful and I almost started crying. But that’s not what surprised me really, what actually did was when the matron said someone should give a toast before I blow the candles and that particular someone cleared his throat. He said
“For a very long time I’ve been dreaming of this day, where I can see you face to face and bark in this glorious creature standing before me. I know I’ve made a lot of mistakes and I beg for your pardon. So what do you say… forgive your old man my daughter?
Conversations grew stale and laughter stifled as everyone stared at me. The air became stuffy and I choked on my emotions. I didn’t know what to feel at all. I knew this day would come but to be really honest, I wasn’t prepared for it and I saw it as a fairy-tale that would never come true. I moved back and I watched as the world turned round until I saw no more.
